Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
Bhatpara State General Hospital will soon have a Smart OPD, funded by Barrackpore MP Partha Bhowmick, similar to the one at Naihati State General Hospital. The foundation stone for the project was laid today in the presence of MP Partha Bhowmick, Jagaddal MLA Somnath Shyam, District Health Secretary Samudra Sen Gupta, North 24 Parganas DM, and other officials.
The Smart OPD aims to modernize outpatient services, improving healthcare access for the Bhatpara-Jagaddal region. Political controversy arose as Bhatpara MLA Pawan Singh, son of former Barrackpore MP Arjun Singh, was absent from the event. MP Partha Bhowmick and MLA Somnath Shyam alleged that despite holding key positions, Arjun Singh and Pawan Singh did not contribute to the hospital’s development. “This hospital serves a large population, but no progress was made under them,” they claimed.
Pawan Singh responded by stating that he was not invited to the event. “I did not receive any official invitation for this program,” he said. The Smart OPD project is expected to enhance medical infrastructure with advanced facilities for patients. The absence of the local MLA from the event has added political tension in the region. Authorities have not commented on the invitation dispute, while construction work for the Smart OPD is set to begin soon.
